Wordell Walter Johnson Sr., 65 of Hurlock, departed this life on Wed., May 8th at Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. April 16, 1948, the late Mary Louise Cephas Johnson and Walter Isaac Johnson became blessed with a tiny little son whom they named Wordell. The doctors did not think he would make it, but God had other plans. Wordell attended schools in Dorchester County and graduated from Maces Lane High School with the Class of 1966. While he was there he was a member of the high school band and was known for being one of the best trumpet players around. In 1981, he graduated from Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown, Delaware with an Associates of Applied Science in Electronic Engineering Technology Degree. Later in 2003, he received a Certificate for classes in C++ Programming at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. In 1968 Wordell married Emma Nichols "Connie" whom he met one day when she came to visit his school with her cousin. From this union their son, Wordell Walter Johnson Jr. "Dell" was born in 1969. He served in the Army as a Dietary Therapy Cook from 1968 to 1970. In later years he was a part of the Army Reserve and left with rank of SSgt. E6. He was employed at Connelly Containers Cambridge, Maryland for 12 years. Later Wordell worked at Food Instruments in Federalsburg, Maryland. In 1983 he became employed by Airpax, now known as Sensata, for over 20 years. At the time of his death he was working for Simco Electronics-Sterling, Virginia at the Cambridge Sensata location. In his early years he attended Hurlock United Methodist Church; latter years he attended Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church Preston, MD Wordell had a quiet way about him, but something about his personality drew people to him. He served as a mentor to a lot of young men in the community. He helped out at the Harriet Tubman Team of Excellence Center and would do anything asked of him. He was thought of as being one of a kind, because of his respect for others, his smile and being a jack of all trades. He leaves to mourn, his wife Emma Johnson; son, Wordell Johnson Jr. (Cambridge, MD); goddaughter, Lakeya Aldridge (Laurel, Delaware); sister Dr. Kay McElvey-Gabriel (Kenny), Hurlock, MD; brothers, Carroll Johnson (Dorene), Vienna, MD, Michael Johnson (Judy), Severn, MD; brothers in-law, Louis Nichols Jr. (Joyce), Dover, Delaware and John W.
