USA Army retired William Handy resident of Prince George's County, MD, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Bradford Oaks Center in Clinton, Maryland of pancreatic cancer. He was the son of the late James Handy and Geneva Handy Jones. He was educated in the Talbot County Public Schools, a graduate of Robert Russa Moton High School in Easton, MD and also attended Harford County Community College. Mr. Handy served 21 years in the U.S. Army serving in Korea, Vietnam, France and a variety of bases in the United States. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Gaithersburg, Maryland. His hobbies were hunting and fishing which he enjoyed hunting trips the most with his nephew Carroll Jr. William is survived by his wife, Lucille Mills Handy, whom he married February 7, 1953 and made their home in District Heights, Maryland; one daughter, Margaret Mae Handy (Washington, DC); two brothers, George Handy (Baltimore, MD) and John Cannon Handy (Atlantic City, NJ); four sisters, Bernetta DeShields (Preston, MD); Vivian Bailey (Easton, MD), Ella Haythe (Easton, MD) and Vergie Williams (Atlantic City, NJ); sisters in-law, Madeline Handy (Easton, Md) and Eliza Croom (Arlington, VA); brother in-law, John Croom Jr. (Arlington, VA) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 11am at Henry Funeral Home PA 510 Washington St Cambridge with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery following the services at 2pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
