Wade Hamilton Bivens, affectionately known as "Pork Chop" and "Pop Pop" to many, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 15, 2012. He was 85 years old. Wade was born in Somerset County, MD on June 26, 1926. He was the oldest of two children born to the late Gladys Bivens Benson and grandson of the late Rev. & Mrs. Issac B. Bivens. He was educated in Ivytown, MD at the Ivytown Country School. After school he joined the U.S. Navy where he served from 1945-1954 in the World War II. After being discharged he was employed by Elliott Brothers Trucking until they closed in 1980. He was then employed by David Brambles Trucking from 1980 until 2009 (29years). Trucking was the center of his life where he became a mentor, friend & "Pop Pop" to all he came to know and love at Brambles. On January 29, 1947, Wade was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ruth Helen Moaney. From this union came fifty-five blessed years until her death on July 29, 2002. At an early age Wade joined Deshields U.M. Church where he was a faithful member and was a member of the "Deshields Gospel Singers". After the closing of Deshields U.M. Church he became a member of St. Matthews U.M. Church in Longwoods, MD. While at St. Matthews he continued to work diligently in any capacity when and wherever needed. He truly enjoyed "Truckers Day". He continued his support of the church until his health began to fail. Wade leaves to mourn a daughter, Stella Bivens; a granddaughter, Gloria Bivens whom he raised as his own; grandsons, Leon Bivens, Lewis Bivens (Beverly), Allan Wilson, David Moaney and Tyrell Perry; great grandchildren, Laisha Bivens, Jackson Bivens, Savon Bivens, Keyonna Handy, LaJuan Groce and Jayvon Hoxter; great great grandchildren, Sinncere and Jayda Robinson; sisters in-law, Marian Bivens, Elizabeth Starling, Elizabeth Moaney and Tissier Moaney; two goddaughters, Jackie Greene and Olivia Moaney; a special friend, Ms. Beatrice Cain; adopted sons, Rev. Willie Garrison, Rodney "Hammer" McDowells and George "Pete" Holmes; a close friend, Herbert "Bunk" Mills; two special nieces Angela Brown and Kim Bazmore two special nephews, Gary Williams; and Melvin Bivens a special cousin, Grace "Billie" Perkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Bivens and a daughter, Phyllis Ann Moaney Landman. Services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 11am at Union Baptist Church Easton, MD with a viewing two hours prior. Interment will be Monday, June 25th 12 noon at the Veterans Cemetery Hurlock, MD.
