Vivian C. Johnson, 76, was taken home to be with her Lord Jesus on April 13, 2009 at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury, Md. Vivian was born August 8, 1932, daughter of the late Josephine E. Brown and Ernest Thompson. She was the oldest of nine siblings and was educated in the Dorchester County School System and a member of the Class of 1949. In 1956, she was married to the late Melvin Johnson and resided in St. Michaels for several years. During this time, she began a career in the healthcare field working as a nursing aide which became her lifelong profession. She was a valued employee at various facilities such as Rio Vista and the Salisbury Nursing Home.\n \n In the late 70s, she moved to Prince George's County to begin her 30 year career at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. until her retirement in 2008. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue Seventh Day Adventist church, an avid reader, enjoyed music, cooking and her card writing ministry.\n \n She is survived by four children, daughter, Joan Thompson (Cambridge), Leslie Meekins (Cambridge); sons, Michael Johnson and Melvin Johnson (both of Easton); four brothers, Ernest Thompson (Emily), Linkwood, Cyril Thompson (Linkwood), David Thompson(Antioch, CA), Donald Thompson (St. Louis, MO); a sister, Carolyn Thompson (Laurel, MD); three grandchildren, Donta Kieffer, Kamellia Griffin and Myesha Johnson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.\n \n She was preceded in death by a brother, James Thompson and two sisters, Josephine Thompson and Joyce Goldsborough. Also left to mourn are her coworkers at Saint Elizabeths Hospital and her church family in Capital Heights, Maryland.
