Violece Brown

–

Trappe, Maryland

Violece Virginia Hines Brown passed on Tuesday morning, December 20, 2022 at her home after a long illness with dementia. She was 83 years old. Violece was born to the late Henry Wayman and Jeanetta Hines on January 24, 1939 in Denton, Md.

She attended Caroline County Public Schools and graduated from Lockerman High School in 1957. She then attended Timshell Beauty School in St Michaels, Maryland where she received her license in cosmetology. She was not able to continue in this vocation because the chemicals affected her health.

She then met and married the love of her life Rev. Robert Brown. They were married on July 16, 1960 at Bells Chapel AME Church in her hometown of Deep Branch. They celebrated 62 years of marriage this past year. From this union they had three daughters.

Violece worked for the Queen Anne’s County Health Department in the Environmental Department. She loved working there. She was very well known in Queen Anne’s County for her cooking and willingness to help others. She was instrumental in helping one of her parishioners rebuild their home through a program in that county. If you needed something just find Mrs. Brown. She would get it done. She retired having many happy memories.

Violece’s Christian journey began at an early age. She began her journey at Bells Chapel AME Church where she attended until she married her husband and she transferred her membership to Scotts United Methodist Church where they raised their three daughters. They attended until 1977 when they began their journey of forty-three years as Pastor and First Lady. She enjoyed being the First Lady but her role and ministry was not sitting there with the hats and nice suits, It was so she could work in the kitchen. Her daughters would often joke with her “ instead of coming in with a nice dress and hat, here you come with flour on your face”. She didn’t care because her passion was cooking and feeding others. She met and acquired so many friends along the way (to many to name) who became family. Every charge became family. Violece sang on the choir, was an usher, secretary for Administrative Council but her proudest and most enjoyable committee was the kitchen committee. If you came to any events at the church, you would find her in the kitchen. This was definitely her ministry . While living on Kent Island in the parsonage she was always feeding someone. You didn’t come there and leave empty handed. Whether it was a dessert, bag of rolls, fully cooked meal or a bag of food. She was affectionally called “The Bea Gaddy of Kent Island”. While there she worked every Thanksgiving with the organization giving away meals and food. When they retired, they moved back to Trappe and they went every year until her illness to help with Operation Christmas. After her husband retired, they soon became the Pastor and First Lady of New St. John’s United Methodist Church. Violece again took over all culinary activities and became the secretary for the Administrative Council. Her work was never done. She would make sure plenty of food was prepared and she enjoyed preparing the food for the church members and the community. She would host New Year’s Day dinner each year and she would have a spread of food from the kitchen to both dining rooms. Cooking the majority of it all by herself. One of her other joys was Christmas. She loved decorating her tree. It would take her two weeks to get it all together and it was beautiful. People would stop by just to see it. When she had grandchildren they had to have their own tree cause no one was allowed to touch hers.

Violece also loved shopping whether it be clothes, furniture or groceries. She also enjoyed word search puzzles and her chocolate candy. She had to read her Star Democrat every day and she loved talking on the phone. Anyone who wanted to know anything would call her and if she didn’t know she was going to find out. While cooking was her passion her greatest joy after moving back to Trappe was being chauffeured around by her husband. He would take her wherever she needed to go and sit patiently and waited for her. It may be the grocery store, hairdresser or to visit someone. The love they had for each other was immeasurable.

Violece would help anyone and was such a joy to talk and conversate with. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would do anything she could for them. They were her pride and joy.

Violece was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Henry Wayman Sr and Edward Hines Sr., threr sister in laws Martina Roberts, Elois Brown amd Eva White, three brothers in law David White, Eugene Roberts and Donald Brown, Sr and her son in law Aaron Howard.

A loving and devoted caregiver Kathy Sorrell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. To God Be The Glory For The Life Lived by Violece Virginia Hines Brown.

God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be,
so He put his arms around you and whispered, Come on to
Me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away.
Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
