Tyrone’s Story
Tyrone Johnson, affectionately known to family and friends as “Tucky,” was a beloved husband, father, Pop Pop, son, brother, and friend. His life touched many people, and his unforgettable presence will forever remain in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on July 11, 1957, he was the son of Rachel and Harvey Johnson. Tucky received his schooling in the Middletown Education System.
A mason by trade, Tucky worked in and retired from the construction business. His hard work and craftsmanship will be remembered by all who knew him.
Tucky cherished the quiet moments spent in prayer, and found deep joy in his relationship with God. He also loved to spend time worshipping God and fellowshipping in church.
If you knew Tucky, you knew when Tucky was in the room. He was loud, full of personality, and never needed an introduction. His voice and presence could fill a room, and that was simply part of what made him Tucky. And anyone who ever shook his hand probably remembers it—Tucky had the most powerful handshake. It was strong, firm, and unmistakably his, the kind of handshake you didn't soon forget.
Tucky enjoyed the things that made him happy, whether it was relaxing with a good cigar, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, sharing a conversation, telling a story, or simply enjoying time with the people around him. He was a socialite, always the life of the party, and lived with a personality that was completely his own.
He was a dedicated and loving husband, sharing more than 50 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Dana Marie Johnson, that was full of laughter, companionship, and love.
But of all the things Tucky loved and took pride in, nothing compared to his daughters and his grandchildren. They were truly his pride and joy. He was incredibly proud of his daughters and the women they became, and he was just as proud of his grandchildren. When he spoke about them, that pride was unmistakable. Their accomplishments, their growth, and simply being able to call them his brought him tremendous joy.
Being Dad and Pop Pop meant more to Tucky than words could fully express. The love and pride he had for his family became part of the legacy he leaves behind. His daughters and grandchildren will continue carrying pieces of him—the lessons he taught, the strength he showed, the stories he shared, his personality, and the love he gave them.
Those who loved Tucky will remember the things that made him unforgettable: that loud voice, that powerful handshake, his smile, his expressions, his conversations, his love for the Cowboys, and the unmistakable way he carried himself. They will remember the stories, the laughter, and even the ordinary moments that now mean more than anyone could have imagined.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel and Harvey Johnson; sister Joyce Johnson; brother Ronald Johnson; and grandson Tei’Quawm Williams.
His memories will always be cherished by his wife Dana Johnson; sister Rochelle Johnson; brothers Larry Johnson and Wayne Johnson; children Nicole Waters (Ronald); Rochele Owens (Nathaniel), Janice Burks, Taiya Johnson, Tyetta Lively (Louis), and Jeff Lively (Faith); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
Tucky leaves behind a family who will deeply miss his physical presence, but his influence does not end here. It lives on through his daughters, his grandchildren, his family, and the countless memories shared by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
His family will continue to say his name, tell his stories, look at his pictures, laugh about the memories, and celebrate the man they knew as Tyrone Johnson and lovingly called Tucky.
Husband. Dad. Pop Pop. Son. Brother. Friend.
Each title tells a different part of his story, but perhaps the greatest part of his legacy can be seen in the family he loved so deeply and was so incredibly proud to call his own.
And for a man who loved his Dallas Cowboys, there is one final thought that feels especially fitting:
Same Game, Different Heaven.
Forever In Our Hearts
Tyrone “Tucky” Johnson
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Your voice may be quiet now, but your presence will never be forgotten.
Your love remains, your memories live on,
and your legacy continues through your daughters and grandchildren.
Rest peacefully, Tucky.
Dad. Pop Pop. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
