Timothy Guy Askins, affectionately known as "Timmy" or "Diddo", of Cambridge, MD passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Sinai Hospital. He was 57 years old. Born on October 27, 1955 in Cambridge, MD, he was the son of Leon Askins Sr. and the late Jeannette Mary Askins. Timmy was educated in the Dorchester County Public School System. He furthered his education at Sojourner Douglas College, becoming a board certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. His extensive employment history included the Hudson Center, Morning Star Youth Academy, New Beginning, White Oak, Warwick Manor, Dorchester County Department of Public Safety, Delmarva Family Resources and Crossroads. Timmy had a diverse work history which began and ended with him doing what he loved to do best, "helping make a difference in the lives of others". He led many of his peers to the 12 step program. Timmy found pleasure in bringing out the best in people, and left and everlasting impression on all who came in contact with him. He desired to draw closer to God and studied the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Askins (Cambridge, MD); father, Leon Askins Sr. (stepmother-Anne); three daughters, Tonette Potter (Gregory), Easton, MD, Shea Bentz (Keith), Trappe, MD and Nichole Askins (Cambridge, MD); six grandchildren, Landen Warfield, Noah Askins, Brigham, Keegan, Brenner and Dylan Bentz; one god daughter, Caneka Meekins-Dixon (Brandon), Cambridge, MD; five sisters, Sharon Warner (Norman), Annie "Hope" Keene and Amy Askins (all of Cambridge, MD); LaDonna Young (Atlanta, GA) and Irene Cannon (Randall), Church Creek, MD; four brothers, Leon Askins Jr (Kernette), Charles Askins (Bonnie), Gregory Askins Sr. (Davette) and Darryl Askins (all of Cambridge, MD); two special cousins, Gary Askins and Eugene Burton (both of Baltimore, MD); a special friend, Michelle Garrett (Cambridge, MD) and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In addition to his mother, Jeannette Askins he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alice and Albert Askins, maternal grandparents, Mary Meekins Keene and Ervin Keene, a brother, Leo Keene and a daughter, Shannon Willey. Services will be held on Sat., June 29th 1pm at Bethel AME Church 623 Pine St Cambridge with a viewing Fri. evening 6-8pm at Henry Funeral Home PA Cambridge. Interment in Bethel Cemetery.
