Thomas Ann Lucas, affectionately known as “Jackie”, peacefully transitioned into eternal life surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. She was 66 years old. Jackie was born April 28, 1949 in Wilson, NC to the late Leonard Earl Lucas, Sr. and Carrie Lillian Allen (Lucas). She was raised by Thomas and Martha Bowens of Wilson, NC. Later, she moved to Millsboro, DE and was raised by her aunt, Emma B. Street.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n Her spiritual upbringing began at Brown Chapel FWB. in Wilson, NC and Harmony AME in Millsboro, DE. Later in life, she joined Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Quantico, MD where she was an active choir member.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n Jackie’s formal education began in Wilson, NC where she attended Adam Elementary and Vick Elementary schools. She also attended Darden High School in Wilson, NC. When she moved to Millsboro, DE, she attended William C. Jason High School and graduated from Millsboro High School in 1968. After graduation, Jackie attended Washington School for Secretaries in Washington, DC and graduated in 1970. In 1996, she earned a Bachelor of Science in General Studies Degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD. Jackie was employed by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore from 1970 until she retired in 1999.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, David Winder, Jr. (Nicole), of Fruitland; three grandchildren, De’Asia Winder, of Columbia, MD, and Whitney and Jordan Griffin, of Fruitland; three brothers, Leonard Earl Lucas, Jr. (Lavonnie), of Georgetown, DE, Scottie A. Lucas, of Wilson, NC, and Gary R. Lucas (Sandra), of Hawkinsville, GA; one sister, Toni G. Parker, of Raleigh, NC; a step-sister, Joanne Rodgers, of Wilson, NC; Aunt, Emma B. Street, of Wilson, NC; Uncles, Thomas Bowen (Dora), of Ashboro, NC and Willie Patterson, of Far Rockaway, NY; special friend, Gary Price, of Ridgely, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special girlfriends.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Willie Allen; a sister, Patricia Ann “Pearl” Bailey; and an aunt, Pauline Parker.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n Jackie will be remembered for her love of fashion, her witty personality, talking on the phone with her girlfriends and family, helping others and most specially her homemade collard greens. She will be missed dearly by all.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n Interment will take place in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
