Thelma Alica Sheppard known to all as "Penny" departed this earthly life on April 12, 2013 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where she fought a good fight and won the battle over leukemia. Becoming a mother at the age of 15, she didn't let that stop her from obtaining her education in the Queen Anne's County Public School System. Penny had a drive and determination like no other to work. She had a love to help others or to be a help. Holding many job titles, such as CAN/GNA, Manager, Private Sitter and toll booth operator, to name a few. Out of all of the titles that she may have held, there was only one that she carried proudly, that was "Mom." Nothing made her more proud than being a mother and then to follow "Nan Nan." Penny had a love to help others. Wherever she lived her home was always open, not only that but she opened her heart as well. There are so many memories and so much that she has done for others. One great memory is while living in Grasonville on Cemetery Road, either at home in the yard or at the park she gathered many kids to come and play kickball which was one of her favorite games and she really enjoyed it. In 2012 Penny rededicated her life to the Lord Jesus, where she served as a member of Chosen Generation Deliverance Ministries, Pastor Arlene F. Taylor. Penny was preceded in death by her birth parents, Roland and Sadie Sheppard, her sister, Diane Sheppard, brothers, Thomas Young, Darryl Sheppard, Alvin and Roland Sheppard III, "Grindaddy", John Tilghman, "Momma", Ethel Mae Felton and Godson, Mr. Stacy Pritchett.
