Thelma Lucille Todd Cornish passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born November 19, 1930 in Linkwood, Maryland. Thelma was the daughter of the late John Wesley Todd and Edna Hollis Todd. At an early age after the passing of her mother she depended on her older siblings to help raise her along with Miss Alice Banks and Miss Hattie Stanley of East New Market. \tThelma was educated in the Dorchester County School system. She was employed by numberous companies in the area including Rob Ray, Inc., Air Pax, Rainbow Cleaners, and the Timshell Hair Beauty School where she earned her certification in cosmetology. After 15 years as a school bus contractor, she and her dear husband Fred Cornish formed Cornish Enterprises, Inc. She served as vice president of the business until her demise. \tIn August 1949, she married her long-time friend Fred Cornish and from this union a daughter was born. They were married for sixty-three years. \tThelma was a devoted member of Bethel AME church and served on the Chancel Choir, church financial treasure, and the usher board. \tFor many years she was a Past Worthy Matron and proud member of Oziel Chapter #23 Order of the Eastern Star of Cambridge, MD and former Illustrious Commandress of Abu Lahab Court #189, Daughters of Isis, Oasis of Salisbury, MD. Thelma was also a member and past Loyal Lady Ruler of the John H. Jones Jr. Assembly #284 Order of the Golden Circle in Salisbury, MD and past State Grand Loyal Lady Ruler of the Willard W. Allen State Assembly Order of the Golden Circle Baltimore, MD. \tThelma was a very loving, caring mother and grandmother to her family. She extended her love and kindness to everyone who knew her. \tShe leaves to cherish fond memories her loving and caring husband Fred Cornish of Cambridge; a sister, Rosalee Todd of Baltimore; two brothers Elsbur Todd (Marie) of Cambridge, and Raymond Todd (Betty) of Gary, Indiana; one daughter, Betty Lucille Isom (Rufus) of Columbia, Maryland; one grandson Hasani Isom of Columbia; and a god daughter Shivon Jackson of Glenarden and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 12 noon at Bethel AME Church 623 Pine St Cambridge, MD with a viewing two hours prior. Interment in Hughes Mission Cemetery.
