Ridgely, Maryland
Shirley Elizabeth Hutchins-Groce, known as “Shirley” was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Shirley was born on September 20, 1929 to the late Barney Hutchins and Viola Green in Carmichael, MD. Shirley went home to be with the Lord early in the morning on May 27, 2024.
Shirley received her education in the Queen Anne’s County Public School System, at the old Kennard Building. Shirley was a domestic worker. She loved to cook for her family and friends, fix a meal and would watch you eat it. Shirley loved to laugh, smile and joke around until her health failed.
She was a member of John Wesley Church in Carmichael, MD and also a member of The Ladies Auxiliary at the Blake Blackston Post 77 in Easton, MD where she served for many years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Barney Hutchins and Viola Green; siblings Catherine Hutchins, Pearl Taylor, Bertha Mae Smith, Florence Jones, and Barney Hutchins, Jr.; children Sylvia Ann Beals, David Groce, George Hadrick, and Calvin Hadrick.
Shirley leaves to cherish precious memories Donald Grace of R.I, Joseph Hadrick (Dominga) of R.I., Milton Hadrick (Trina) of Ridgely, MD, Florence Thomas of Glen Burnie, MD, Jonathan Hadrick of Easton, MD; one brother-in-law Marshall Taylor, special cousins Yvonne Batson and Elaine Batson; twenty-two grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, twenty great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
To the Caroline Nursing and Rehab, we extend a heartfelt appreciation for the care that the staff provided for Shirley.
