Sherley Mae James, 68, was called home to her eternal rest on February 21, 2016 at Genesis Elder Care in Easton.\n \n\n She was born October 20, 1947 in Painter, Virginia to the late Percy L. James and Olivia T. Baines. Shirley began her education at Mt. Zion School in Painter. At the early age of 12, her parents relocated the family to Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Shirley loved to bake and cook for the family. She enjoyed taking long rides to visit relatives and friends. She was employed in various capacities of work throughout her lifetime. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and singing. She enjoyed the good times together at family picnics, holiday gatherings, and reminiscing about the times growing up in Virginia.\n \n\n She was a member of Christ Apostolic Church of God in Price, Maryland under the leadership of Bishop Carlston N. Greene. She sang with the Voices of Praise choir.\n \n\n In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 brothers: Earl Oliver James and Philip Tyrone James; and 1 sister Brenda Leoma James.\n \n\n She leaves to cherish fond memories one son; Harold (Zelda) James of Chestertown; 1 daughter Renee (Kevin) Gray of Greensboro; 4 grandchildren: Kashyria James and Arnold Bailey, Jr of Greensboro, Brian Stansbury of Churchill, and Troy Duckery of Easton; 2 sisters: Barbara (John) Smallwood of Marydel, and Geraline Johnson of Federalsburg; 4 brothers: Hilton James of Ridgely, Percy (Thelma) James of Easton, Maurice James of Eason, and Emmanuel (Maureen) James of Centreville; 1 sister-in-law Carman James of Centreville; 2 aunts: Emma (William) Chandler, and Teressa Baines of Accomack, Virginia; 2 uncles: Ernest (Jaslyn) James of Belle Haven, Virginia, and Charlie James of Long Island, New York; 2 special friends she treated like daughters: Cheryl Akins of Waldorf, and Dewauna Tyler Newport News; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Sherly will be lovingly remembered for all her love and joy she brought to others.
