Ruby Odetta Wilson, 77, of Cambridge, MD, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at The Pines, in Easton, MD. Queen Ruby, as she was called by close family and friends, was born on June 22, 1949, in Cambridge, MD, to Lorraine Cornish and Willie Wallace.
Ruby attended Mace’s Lane High School and graduated with the Class of 1967. Not long after graduating, she was married to Wayne Delano Wilson on December 31, 1968, and began creating a beautiful life and raising a beautiful family. Ruby took great pride in her
children and family.
Her work history included Bumble Bee, Coldwater, and Allen Foods for a total of 30 years after which time, she retired. She then worked, part-time, at the American Legion Post 87 and Dorchester Lodge #223.
Throughout her life, Ruby was known for her kindness, generosity, faith, strength, and her excellent cooking skills, especially her corn pudding dish. She really enjoyed cooking and feeding others.
Ruby was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she was committed and practiced her faith in God even as her health began to decline.
Ruby leaves to cherish her memory, her children: LaVon Wilson (Jason) of Cambridge, Wayne Wilson (Shanna) of Georgia, Devan Wilson of Cambridge, and Sharika Wilson of Texas; grandchildren: London Boyd, Paul Pinder Jr., Xzavier Pinder, Jada Wilson, Lyric Wilson, Wayne Wilson Jr., Ju’Juan Jones Jr., Layla Jones, Ja’Kobe Jones, Swae Jones, Kamryn Wilson, and Jordyn Nichols; two great-grandchildren: Zoe Pinder and Milani Morris; sisters: Valerie Cornish, Laverne Cornish, Lachelle Cornish, and Juanita Jordan of Akron, Ohio; brothers: Irvin Cornish, Cedrick Cornish, and Orlando Cornish (Gail); and best friend / lifelong friend and god mom to LaVon: Dr. Barbara Woolford, whose love and support never wavered, especially during the most difficult time of Ruby's life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Delano Wilson; mother, Lorraine Cornish; father, Willie Wallace; grandfather, Artemus Cornish; grandmother, Willie Cornish; and brother, Freddie Cornish.
Ruby was a beloved mother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many. She will be
deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She lived a good and blessed life while spending her final days acknowledging God’s goodness through prayer, scripture, listening to her favorite hymns, and praising the Lord.
Although we have to say goodbye to her today, her spirit, love, and legacy will remain within us forever. Our beloved Queen may now gently lay down her crown and rest peacefully in Heaven, surrounded by God’s eternal love. Her beautiful spirit and cherished memory will remain forever in our hearts.
Farewell, Queen Ruby
