Royce Roberts Jr Obituary (1956 - 2014)

Royce Wilbert Roberts, Jr. (Roy) was born into this life on April 15, 1956 to the late Royce W. Roberts, Sr., and Vivian E. Wilson Roberts. He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Hospice of Queen Anne's, Centreville, Maryland. He was 58 years old. During his early childhood, he grew up in Easton and Cordova (Newtown), Maryland. His family later moved to Trappe, Maryland. Royce graduated from Easton High School in the Class of 1974. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1974 to 1975 and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, and an honorable discharge. His Christian foundation began at New Zion United Methodist Church (Newtown) and Scotts United Methodist Church, Trappe, Maryland. Most recently, he was a member of Evangel Cathedral, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. In 1985, Royce relocated to Landover, Maryland. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former Vernette D. Hutchins on October 6, 1990. He loved to work with his hands and spent 30+ years in the sheet metal industry and worked for various companies. He was recently employed by Potomac Rubber Company in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Throughout his career, he rarely missed a day from work. Royce loved his family, especially the children. He put others first and went out of his way to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed dancing and provided live entertainment for his brother's former group DRC DJs many years ago, which earned him the stage name 'Rugged Roy'. His favorite hobbies included relaxing and watching television, going on vacation with family (especially cruises), and attending drag racing events/car shows. In addition to his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Roberts; and mothers-in-law, Mrs. Sylvia Hutchins Beals and Mrs. Pearl Taylor, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife of 23 years, Vernette H.
