Roy Rodyen Burke departed this life on Sunday December 30, 2012 at Genesis Healthcare Center in Centreville Maryland, he was 72 years old. Born on April 27, 1940 in Centreville Maryland, Roy was the twentieth child born to the late Jessie and Blanche Anderson Burke. Services will be held on Sat., January 5, 2013 12 noon at Robinson AME Church Grasonville Cemetery Rd. Grasonville, MD with a viewing two hours prior. Interment in Carmichael Cemetery.\n \n Roy was educated in the Queen Anne's County public school system. He worked in the construction field for his entire adult life, having worked for Asphalt Service Company and David A. Bramble, Inc during those years prior to retiring in 2005. After just a few weeks of retirement, Roy decided retirement "wasn't for him" and went back to work, this time as a school bus driver. Until his illness he served as a committed driver for MRDC Head Start, "his most enjoyable job ever". Roy enjoyed all sports having played basketball and softball well into his adult years, singing, playing cards, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Roy was an active member of Robinson A.M.E Church where he served faithfully in the Men's Ministry, Choirs and Trustee Board until his health no longer allowed. He also was a member of the Grasonville Male Chorus.\n \n In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his siblings; Edward, John, James, Lester, Alexander, Jesse, Margarite, Bradford, Isabel, Thomas and Rodger, wives; Welchia and Selestine and one daughter, Sharon.\n \n Roy's memory will be cherished by his daughter, Shawan, Stevensville MD, a special daughter whom he raised as his own, Shakyra Wilson, Chester MD, two sons; James, Columbia MD and Jermaine, Delmar MD; three brothers, Lewis, Easton MD, Raymond (Florence), Wilmington DE, and Robert (Evalena) Barclay MD, nine grandchildren; Wayne, Shanaiya, Cymaje, Chyna, Brayden, Narija, Jamiya, Jakiya and Trinity, a special goddaughter, Tammie Cook, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
