Tuesday afternoon, January 12, 2016 at the age of 92, God’s angel of Mercy walked with Rosella Piccola Camper into a new world, free of sickness, pain, and suffering where God is present. Piccolla was born on December 25, 1923 in St. Michaels, MD to the late Geogotha Dennis Brooks and Rosie Cromwell Brook.\n \n\n She attended the public schools in St. Michaels, Talbot County and graduated in 1940 as Valedictorian of her class. In 1944, she received a Bachelor’s degree from Bowie State University. Her undergraduate training was from Morgan State University. She studied accounting procedures at Temple University and Fort Benjamin Harrison.\n \n\n Piccola began her career as a school teacher in Baltimore, Calvert, and Wicomico Counties. Years later, she became an accountant with the Federal Government (Navy & Army division) in Philadelphia where she worked for 28 years.\n \n\n On May 20, 1961, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Orville Camper who preceded her in death in 1968.\n \n\n Piccola was known to be a hard and dedicated worker who did not let anything stand in her way. “I was a fighter” she quoted in an interview.\n \n\n She was influential in the writing of “Lift Every Voice” book and a film producer of the movie African American History of St. Michaels. She was honored at D. I. V. A. S for Christ in 2013.\n \n\n She served the community in the following ways:\n \n\n *member & chairperson for Board of Directors of St. Michaels Housing Authority (25 yrs)\n \n\n *treasure & corresponding secretary and treasurer for Union UM Church (20+ years)\n \n\n *recorder for Talbot County Black History\n \n\n *commissioner & treasurer of St Michaels (1986-1990)\n \n\n *charter member of St. Michaels Community Center\n \n\n *member of the Advisory Board for Shore Up Head Start\n \n\n *member of the Advisory Board for Upper Shore Aging\n \n\n *secretary & executive member of St. Michaels Chapter of AARP\n \n\n She was a recipient of many awards such as the Community Achievement Award, Service Dedication Award, and a host of other awards and recognitions.\n \n\n Piccola leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces and nephews: Pearl Warner, Craig Custis, Sr., Vance Warner, Shayne Henry, Craig Custis, Jr., Jason Brooks, Rhonda Warner, Jaime Brooks, Ryan Warner, Alice Brooks, Jeremiah Brooks, Justin Brooks, Nikki and Michael Marrow, Ashley and Cutler Sherwood, Amber Harper, Brittany Pinder, Ava, Madison Zoey, Jaron Jones, Myles Marrow, Noah Marrow, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.\n \n\n She is preceded in death by a brother, Toussaint Brooks; sisters: Doreathea Warner and Frances Chester; and 2 nephews: Eric Brooks and William Warner.
