Roberta A. Hopkins was born June 9, 1913 in Dorchester County, Maryland, daughter of the late Mitchell J. and Hattie Bell Carter Wongus. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Lakewood of Voorhees Nursing Home in Voorhees, New Jersey after a prolonged illness.\n \n Ms. Hopkins was educated in the public schools in Dorchester County.\n \n She later met and married the late William H. Hopkins, Sr. from that union two children were born, Peggy A. Murphy (Collingswood, NJ) and the late William H. Hopkins, Jr. (Philadelphia, PA).\n \n She was a faithful member of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church for many years.\n \n Ms. Hopkins worked for Chun King for many years even after it changed to R.J. Reynolds, which she retired from in 1982.\n \n In addition to her parents, four brothers, Harry, James Daniel and Mitchell, three sisters, Sarah Carter, Rose Sterling and Anna Wongus preceded her in death. Ms. Hopkins was a loving and devoted mother.\n \n She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and dedicated daughter, Peggy A. Murphy; nine grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.\n \n Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 11am at Mt. Pleasant UM Church Salem, Maryland with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment in the church cemetery.
