Robert Bertram Thomas departed this life on Monday January 6, 2014 at home, after a long illness. Born on April 28, 1926 in St. Michaels, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wilson and Clara Thomas. He attended Talbot County public schools and graduated from Robert Russa Moton High School in Easton in 1943, He was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church and served as a trustee, usher, and sang on the men's choir until he became too ill to attend. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army (Japan) where he received the World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to St. Michaels where he worked as a clerk at St. Michaels Acme Market for 30 years, retiring in 1977. In 1947 he was joined in marriage to Arlene M. Fountain and was blessed with three children. This union lasted 66 years. In 1959 he joined the Order of Odd Fellows at Freedom's Friend Lodge No. 1024 and served as treasurer. "Mr. Bob "will always be remembered for his humor, love of baseball, kind heart and giving spirit. He is survived by his wife Arlene M. Thomas, three children, Earl R. Thomas Sr., (Elaine) Philadelphia Pa., Robin B. Thomas, Sr. (Joelda) Tucson, Arizona and Marlene R. Thomas, St. Michaels. Eighteen grandchildren - Brian Acree, Jr., Raven Thomas, Robin Thomas Jr., Robert Thomas, Tomika Thomas, Sherene Beale, Andrea Thomas Moore (Jimi), Chloe Thomas, Shannon Thomas, Antonio Wright (Layla), Stacey Burnley (Brian), Earl Thomas, Jr., (Ttinetta) Tracey Thomas (Lorraine), Kevin Smith (Barbara), Keya Smith, Trina Thomas, Kelvin Smith and Terrance Thomas. Thirty-five great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, several nieces and a host of cousins and friends.\n \n Services will be Sat., Jan. 11, 2014 10am at Union United Methodist Church St. Michaels with a viewing Fri. evening 7-8pm and one hour prior to service. Interment in Charles Thomas Mem Cemetery.
