Rennard Slacum Obituary (1943 - 2009)

Rennard Sylvester Slacum of Cambridge, Maryland departed this life on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born August 14, 1943 to the late Rennard (Hank) Humaine and Leotha Slacum. Rennard was a graduate of Mace's Lane High School class of 1961. After graduating, he moved to New Jersey where he met and married Barbara Slacum. From this union he was blessed with four children. Upon returning to the Cambridge area in 1974, he met and married Joann Cornish Slacum. From this union he was blessed with one son. Rennard was employed as a machinist at various local area manufacturing businesses including Chun King, R.J. Reynolds, Wire Cloth and Cor- Pac from which he retired. Rennard was very well loved by his family, his friends and he had many acquaintances. He was very fun loving, young at heart, and a great sports fan. His favorite teams were the Raiders, the Lakers and the Georgetown Hoyas. Rennard was very proud of his family. A devoted friend, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, he always enjoyed cooking and having his family and friends over. Everyone was welcome in his home. He was an especially devoted son, as he showed special care and attention for his mom. Professing his faith is Christ, he became a member of the New Revived United Methodist Church in Smithville. Rennard will be cherished and remembered by his wife Joanne; two daughters, Desiree Watson(Joe) of Kentucky, and Chei Slacum of Georgia; Four sons, Terrence Thomas of New Jersey, Rennard Slacum, III(Tonya) of Georgia, Tracy Slacum(Roxanne) of South Carolina and Ray "Chillz" Cornish of Cambridge; 10 grand children, Taneesha and Desiree of New Jersey, Nyisha, Joshua and Jordon all of Georgia, Ray'on, Ray'mar, and Akeema of Cambridge, and Eric and Justin of South Carolina; Seven great-grand children Isiah and Ayanna, of New Jersey, Alias, Jeremy, Noah, Moses and Denaja all of Georgia. He is also survived by his Mother Leotha Slacum; Mother-in law and Father-in law Doris and Luther Cornish; one sister Fay Waters(Leon); four brothers, Donald Willis(wife), Michael Robinson(Beverly), Alfred Slacum(Nicey) and Wayne Robinson; three brothers-in law, Michael Cornish(Paulette), Michael Wheatley, and Rev. Keith Cornish(Brenda); two sisters-in law Vanessa Meekins(Carroll) and Roslyn Watts(Ernie). One Aunt, Ernestine Meekins(Gregory). Uncles, Lloyd Wheatley(Vi) and George Lee(Sarah) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends. He will be especially missed by a very devoted friend, Danny Chester. Preceding him in death, in addition to his father , are his step father Alfred(Teenie)Burroughs Jr.; Grandfather Rev. Ernest Lyte; Aunt Aline and Uncle Allen Cephas and a special cousin Reginald Humaine II. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 1pm at Refuge Temple Church of God 800 Robbins St Cambridge with a viewing Friday evening 6-8pm at Henry Funeral Home, PA 510 Washington St Cambridge.
