Purnell Thomas Flamer known as Rap, passed away at Univ. of MD Shore Med Center at Dorchester on Mon., Jan. 29, 2018 after a lengthy illness.\n \n\n He was born in Reids Grove, MD, son of the late Wadell Smullen and the late Pearl Flamer. Purnell was educated in the schools of Dorchester County and was in the Class of 1967 of Maces Lane High School.\n \n\n He was employed at various jobs in Cambridge, such as Hanover, Department of Public Works, Warwick Behavioral Manner and his last and his love Dri Dock where he earned and became a Peer Support Specialist where he work until his health failed. Purnell loved music, shopping and sports. He play in his youth in the Turkey Bowl with the fellows, enjoyed the Penn Relays and was a die hard trash talking Pittsburg Steelers fan.\n \n\n Purnell is survived by his wife, Kathy; a son, Kenneth Young, Jr. (New Jersey); a daughter, Roshonda Willis (Cambridge, MD); four sisters, Brenda Batons (Freddie), Mona List Smith, Floretta Johnson (Timmy) all of Cambridge, MD, Earnestine Gaines, Vienna, MD; four brothers, William Flamer of Florida, Jimmie, Louis and Augustine Smullen, all of Salisbury, MD; an aunt, Helen Harmon, Reids Grove; an uncle, Orville Smullen, Washington State; two sisters in-law, Patsy Collins (Frank), Hurlock, MD and Bernice Perry, Cambridge, MD; very close friend who was like a brother, Larry (Scar) Nichols; close friends, Clarence Cornish Jr., Thomas Sutton, Milton Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\n \n\n In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Sewell, an aunt, Annabelle Whaley, cousins, Grace and Thomas Whaley, close deceased friend, Larry Chester.
