Norvel Thompson Sr. Obituary (1938 - 2014)

Tribute to Norvel Burtchell Thompson, Sr. June 13, 1936 ~ June 8, 2014 Norvel (Burt) Thompson, Sr. son of the late Francis Thompson and Agnes Pinder-Thompson was born June 13, 1938 in Cambridge, Maryland. He departed this life at home with his family on Airey’s Road on June 8, 2014. Burt attended public schools in Dorchester County. He was a graduate of Maces Lane High School in 1956. Burt attended various churches Mission, Airey’s, and Fork Neck. Burt worked at Connelly Containers, was a manager at McDonald’s for 2 years, and retired from Western Publishing after 27 years. On September 3, 1966, he married his soulmate Normalee Dorothy Jones-Thompson of 47 years. Through this union three children were born Dinah Thompson, Gwendolyn Thompson-Leon and Paula Thompson-Sampson. Burt is survived by his wife, Normalee; three daughters Dinah Thompson, of Seat Pleasant, MD, Gwendolyn Leon (Antonio) of Mitchellville, MD, Paula Sampson (Troy) of Springdale, MD, and Norvel B. Thompson, Jr. (Karen) of Chestertown, MD; two brothers Nathan Thompson (Mary) of Cambridge, MD, Wallace Thompson (Mary F.) of Cambridge, MD; Five grandchildren; Devin Thompson, Sr., Brittany Thompson, Briyhana Leon, Antonio Leon, Jr. and Joshua Sampson; Two great grandchildren; Londyn Miller and Devin Thompson, Jr.; Three sister in-laws Judy Rhock of Baltimore, MD, Patricia McNamara and Linda Elliott of Cambridge, MD, Three brother in-laws Arthur Jones, Jr.(Delilah) Wayne Jones (Agurtha) and Thomas Palmer all of Cambridge, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Burt was preceded in death by two sisters Lillian Thompson, Agnes Thompson one brother Francis Thompson, and one grandson Zachery Sampson.
