Miss Myrtle Virginia Copper, 77 years of age, entered into eternal rest at 11:30 am, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton, MD. She was born at The Wilderness Farm in Island Creek Neck and has lived in Trappe, for her lifetime. She has been employed in local tomatoes and corn factories; provided health care to her parents and domestic work for many families in this community until her retirement and health failure; presently to the Granville Wise & Blades families. "Myrt" as she was called received her education at the Trappe Elementary Colored School. Here she was a "champion Dodgeball player." She could throw the ball about forty to fifty miles per hour, known as the "fool ball." While looking and yelling at dodger #1, she would aim and hit the least expecting dodger #3, 4 or 5. If hit you were knocked off your feet, if hit on the head, it was "lights out!" or a long term headache. She attended Moton High in Easton thru grade 10. She was very soft spoken, but a loving person, parent and friend in this community, where she cared for parents and raised the "Love of her heart", Kent Henry Copper, known as The Bike Riding marathon rider in the Trappe area. Kent would rise early morning feed and prepare Mom for the day. Then bike approximately 3 miles to work, rain or shine. Return home for lunch to do whatever and back to work until the end of day and back home to cook and serve dinner. He loved and totally cared for and about his mom. He only had two main expensive problems, (1) trying to ride late night avoiding the town cop. When realizing his flashlight was left somewhere or he had dead batteries. (2) Every two to three weeks, he would have to replace worn out, not tread or busted bike tires. Myrtle and her parents attended Scotts United Methodist Church and were always a part and in attendance to The Nace's Day activities. She loved being sociable with many friends and relatives but mainly enjoyed TV, eating, driving, shopping and caring for Kent. Myrtle has been preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Sadie Brooks and Mr. James Brooks Sr., three uncles, Charles Jacobs, Issac and Arthur Copper Sr. and one aunt, Annette Copper. She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Kent Henry Copper; two brothers, James Brooks Sr and Isaac Brooks (Peggy); two sisters, Alberta Henson and Anna Skinner; one step brother, James Hall & Brenda (Oxford); one half-sister, Rita Cain (Cambridge) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 11am at Scotts UM Church Trappe, MD with a viewing Thurs. evening 6-8 pm at Henry Funeral Home PA Cambridge and one hour prior to service. Interment in Paradise Cemetery.
