Miriam Brooks Obituary (1935 - 2013)

The Woman, Educator, Mother and Friend Miriam Virginia Wells Brooks was born in Trappe, Maryland on October 31, 1935, the daughter of the late Nathan and Lula Wells. She was educated in the Talbot County School System, After she graduated from high school, she attended Morgan State Teachers College and then matriculated in Bowie State Teachers College where she graduated in 1953. Later, Miriam married Vernon "Bobby" Brooks, on December 26, 1959. They were blessed with identical twins Vernon Rory and Vaughn Robert. Miriam was a devoted wife and loving mother and continued to provide a loving and nurturing environment for her son Vaughn after her husband's passing in 1981. Family Although she was the youngest of eight children, for her parents and siblings she was "the apple of their eye". Over the years she became the center focus of the family, as she maintained the homestead in Trappe. The hospitality and loving care shown to those family members and friends that visited over the years will forever hold precious memories for all. Faith Miriam had an unwavering faith in God and received her early religious training in Hurlock, Maryland where her mother was a Pastor. Later, she served as a member of the Scott United Methodist Church until her death. Over the years, she had become very involved in the church and assisted with numerous church events. Miriam served as communion steward and various other capacities over the years, all to provide loving service to her church. "And the Lord said, who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give their rations at the proper time?" Miriam The Educator Miriam dedicated her life to educating children in the Queen Anne County Public school system. After being devoted to teaching for 35 years, she retired in 1993. Her insight broadened horizons and enabled many to expand their knowledge. Her joyful, positive approach to learning and her absolute love for teaching was a shining example to many younger teachers who were lucky enough to be encouraged by this wonderful educator. Good teachers understand the importance of nurturing the love and thirst for knowledge. Miriam was a good teacher. Miriam leaves to mourn her memory: a loving son, Vaughn, one sister, Sarah Coleman of Philadelphia, two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Clark and Florence Stanley, two brother-in-laws, Edward Jones, Barney Brooks, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins as well as other relatives and friends. Services will be Sat., Feb. 16th 11am at Scotts UM Church Trappe with a viewing two hours prior. Interment in Paradise Cemetery
