Minister Jean Virgie Fletcher, 78 of Cambridge, went home to be with the Lord on Mon., Nov. 18, 2013 at Univ. of MD Shore Med Center at Dorchester. Born June 7, 1935 in Crisfield, MD, she was the daughter of the late Darty Golden and Fannie Julia Davis Price. Mother Virgie, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Somerset County in the early years and later in Queen Anne's County. There she met her late husband, James Dupont Fletcher. They were married for 25 years until his death. From this union seven children were born, Dolliejean Reed, Theresa Diane, Dartyjames, Richard Douglas, Robin Angela, Deborah Delois Fletcher and Sheila Fletcher (who preceded her in death last year). After moving to Dorchester County in 1955 she was employed as a cook with The Point Restaurant in Cambridge, Rob Roys, private sitter and as a caregiver for adults and children. Her greatest job was a homemaker, providing care for her children and grandchildren. Mother Virgie loved the Lord. Her calling was to minister to the community through the hospitals, nursing homes, private residence, Detention Centers and prisons for many years. When asked to speak she would at different churches within the community. She put God first in her life until he called her home. In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Yvonne McKissic, Phyllis Green and Erton Price; in-laws, George Johnson, Joe McKissic, Elton Green and Clyde Moore. Her memory shall be cherished by her six children, , Dolliejean Reed (Springdale, MD), Theresa Diane, Dartyjames, Richard Douglas, Robin Angela, Deborah Delois Fletcher (all of Cambridge, MD); two step daughter, Rosalee Camper and Beverly Chesley; one step son, James Kane; two siblings, Florence Johnson and Iris Moore; a sister in-law, Mary Price; 34 grandchildren, Marseeda Reed, Dartyjames Reed, Dolliejean Reed II, Michelle A. Reed, Valnza L.T. Reed, Deasia Fletcher, TaRron Fletcher, LaRron Fletcher, Akenia Fletcher, Hydia Fletcher, Nisaiah Fletcher, Keonta Fletcher, Wade Fletcher, Donyelle Molock, India Fletcher, Tecoy Chesley, Lamieria Barnes, Patrick Young, Lamica Fuller, Chonta-e Fletcher, Staff Sgt Demetris Fletcher, Shanekia Fletcher, Jamiliah Fletcher, James Land, Keith Land, Angela Land, Jayla Henry and Jamier Copper; 60 great grandchildren; two best friends, Mable Nicholson and Mother Helen Dupree and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be Sat. Nov. 23rd 11am at Refuge Temple Church of God 800 Robbins St Cambridge with a viewing Fri evening 6-8pm and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment in Bethel Cemetery.
