Melvin Henry Robinson, 72, departed this life on March 16, 2013 at his home. He was born to the late Susie and Roosevelt Burgess Sr. in Newport News, VA. Melvin was well loved by many family members and friends. During his illness he had a lot of visitors who wanted to help and offered their services to him. Melvin was well known by many and was very good in masonry work. He worked for Allen Tyler and his wife Charrie for over 53 years. Their family was his family. They loved and cared for Melvin right down to the end. Visiting him every day during his illness and making sure that he had everything he needed for his comfort. They even came in and sit with him during his illness. He loved them and they certainly loved him and cared for him financially. Melvin also worked for Phil Feldman the last several years until his health failed. Mr. Feldman also looked out for his financial welfare and treated him like family. He also visited and cared for him during his illness. He was an active member of the Prince Hall Masonic family. Melvin served as Past Master of Pride of Cambridge Lodge #50, Past Illustrious Potentate of Abulahab Temple #206, Ancient Eygptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine and a 32nd degree mason of King David Consistory #284, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite. Melvin leaves to cherish his memory, Eula Travers, a special friend whom he chose to care for him during his illness; five sisters, Rosanna Burgess (Durham, NC), Barbara Coleman, Jurena Burgess, Blanche Burgess and Hester Burgess (all of Newport News, VA); two brothers, Roosevelt Burgess Jr. and Theodore Burgess (Newport News, VA); four stepchildren whom he accepted as his own, Cecilia Denise Fletcher, Montoya Murry and Angela Haynes (all of Cambridge, MD) and Drexel Nelson (Washington, DC); a special niece whom he called his daughter, Rose Bailey (Baltimore, Md) and his favorite niece and nephew, Susie and Lavelle Ausberry (Newport News, VA) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death was a brother, Percy Burgess, and two sisters, Susie Pittman and Katie Robinson. Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 12 noon at St. Luke UM Church 712 Bradley Ave Cambridge with a viewing Friday evening 6-8pm at the church with Masonic services beginning at 7pm and one hour prior to services. Interment in Bethel Cemetery Cambridge, MD.
