Mary Rachel DeLoatch, 78 of Vienna, lost her battle with cancer, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at home in Milford, CT, surrounded by family and close friends.\n \n She was born April 4, 1930 in Church Creek, Maryland to the late Louis and Lillian Brannock. Mary, a long time resident of Dorchester County, proudly attended Church Creek Elementary School as well as the notable St. Clair High School in Cambridge, Maryland from which she graduated with the class of 1949. She was a member of Waugh United Methodist Church, where she, along with her late sister Gertrude, was often referred to as "church mice" because of their commitment and enthusiasm regarding church activities.\n \n Mary was known for her hardworking, resilient spirit and devoted her life to caring for others. She retired after many devoted years of service from Delmarva Community Services; during her tenure, she was a caregiver and as a result many of her clients became very fond of her. After retirement; Mary continued her career in service as the owner and operator of an assisted living program for adults she established in her home and she was also employed at Delmarva Community Service for many years.\n \n At a young age, Mary married the late Jackson Jolley. This union was blessed with six children. In 1972, she married Joseph DeLoatch, and supported him in the upbringing of his four children. Mary with such generous spirit was also a surrogate mother to several nieces and nephews as well.\n \n Mary cherished the many moments shared in the company of family and friends. She took great pleasure in cooking, gardening, traveling, shopping, or simply engaging in quiet conversations with visitors on the front porch. She loved her home and took pride in each home improvement project she completed to establish and maintain its historic beauty. Mary was truly exceptional and when in her presence, she had a way of making everyone feel special.\n \n In addition to her parents, and ex-husband Jackson, Mary was preceded in death by brothers: William Brannock, Norman Brannock, Louis "Pete" Brannock, Luke Brannock; sisters: Gertrude Douglas, Lillian Martin, and Angeline Aldridge; daughters Jacqueline Jolley, Leatrice Jolley; and grandson Kevin Jolley.\n \n Mary is survived by four sons: Marion Jolley (Belinda), Milford, CT; Tyrone Jolley, Richard Jolley, Roger Jolley (Ronda), (all of Vienna, MD); four step-children: Joseph DeLoatch Jr., Temple Hills, MD; Richard DeLoatch, Bladensburg, MD; Denise Buckman, Cheltenham, MD; Sheila DeLoatch-Dade, Upper Marlboro, MD; one sister Inez Beatrice Brock (Walter), Cambridge, MD; 13 grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
