Lucy Catherine Thomas Keene departed this life on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Genesis Health Care in Easton, MD. She was born July 29, 1927 to the late William E. and Annie V. Harris Thomas in Royal Oak, MD.\n \n In 1945, she graduated from Robert Russa Moton High School in Easton, MD. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Preston E. Keene, Sr. She was employed as a chef and domestic worker for several local businesses and families in the area prior to her retirement. Lucy was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Bellevue, MD where she was an usher and communion steward until her health began to fail. Lucy enjoyed and loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. You could find her in the kitchen baking her famous coconut cakes, pound cakes, apple dumplings, sweet potato pies and blueberry pudding. She also enjoyed reading her Bible and Daily Bread every night She leaves to mourn her passing, three children, Barbara Keene (Easton, MD), Larry Keene (Preston, MD) and Yvonne Miles (Salisbury, MD); one brother, Elbert Thomas (Easton, MD); one grandson, Larry, Jr.; eight granddaughters, Kim (Curtis), Terri, Tramaine, Alexes, Ashley, Yolanda, LaNae' (Donnie) and Shane'; four great grandsons, Kevin, Tyreik, Larry III and Isaiah; three great granddaughters, Kiara, Marshay and Mariah; a best friend and classmate Gladys Smith and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\n \n In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Preston E. Keene, Sr.; three sons, William Keene, Preston Keene Jr. and Lindsay Keene; five brothers, Edward Harris, Benjamin Gibson, James Thomas, Herman Thomas and George Thomas; four sisters, Lillian Bentley, Martha Thomas, Alphonso Kellum and Barbara Thomas; a mother in-law, Henrietta Keene and a son in-law, Larry Miles, Sr. Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 11am at St. Luke UM Church Bellevue, MD with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in Royal Oak Cemetery.
