Jeanette Lorraine Robinson

–

Salisbury, Maryland

There was great joy in the town of Clinton, North Carolina, In the year of 1934, in the month of September, on the eleventh day, when a baby girl named Jeanette Lorraine was born to Alonzo and Carrie Darden.

Two years later in 1936 at the age of two, Jeanette's parents relocated and moved to Newark, New Jersey to forget the memories of the death of their oldest son, Chadmus.

Jeanette was educated in the Newark public school system and graduated from Central High School in 1951. She later further her education in the early sixties at Essex County Cosmetology School and became a licensed beautician. She received many trophies for the best hair stylist at the hair shows in New York and Georgia.

Jeanette had a great love of pursuing different careers. While working long hours at her hair salon one day, she began questioning within herself, Lord what next? The next day she enrolled at Essex County Nursing School, graduated and became a licensed nurse. She worked at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark and the VA Hospital in Lyons, NJ. After moving to Maryland, she was employed at the Berlin Nursing Home for many years and became the night shift charge nurse. She was awarded with her RN certification from the state of Maryland through training at the Berlin Nursing facility where she later retired.

After high school she met and married Luke Martin, and from that union they had three daughters, Dolores Rose, Sandra Lorraine, and Sharon Thelma.

Jeanette attended the Emmanuel Church of Christ in Newark, NJ under the Pastorate of the late District Elder Solomon Sanders as a young child. She constantly reminded everyone that she was the last surviving member from the Emmanuel 69 Broome Street location. Jeanette was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holyghost in her early twenties. At the Emmanuel Church of Christ she took pride in mentoring the young people. She served as the church secretary, revival secretary, gospel choir member and chaperone for the young people's out of town events and services. She took pride in teaching the young ladies how to dress and would take them to restaurants to teach them proper etiquette.

In 1979 Harold Robinson returned to New Jersey from Maryland and visited his family and inquired about his old Sunday School friend Jeanette from Emmanuel Church of Christ. They connected and on May 24, 1980 they married.

Harold and Jeanette were looking for a Pentecostal Apostolic Church in Maryland and were directed to Mardela Apostolic Church under the Pastorate of Mother Johnson. There she worked with the nurses guild and was the church announcer. The church was a long distance from their home and by the “Leading of the Lord” in 1992 Elder Emmanuel Baker and Elder Harold Robinson, along with their wives and four others, started Greater Higher Hope Temple Church in Salisbury, MD. There the late District Elder Baker was the Pastor. Jeanette still remained a faithful member under the current Pastor, Elder Albert Todd.
