Jaye Allen Obituary (1948

(Jaye) Russell Charles Allen was born March 8, 1948 to the late Francis Garfield Allen and Eleanor Woolford of Easton, MD. He transitioned from this life on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD at the age of 60. In the early 1970's his interest turned to broadcasting as he hosted his first talk show 'Black Rap'. Bitten by the radio bug Russell "hitch-hiked" to Baltimore determined to find success in radio & music. First under the moniker, Manchild and later as Jaye Russell, he worked as an on-air personality for several radio stations including:WEMD, WSID, WEAA, WEBB, WBGR and WEAM in Virgina. Jaye also served as the head of Public Relations for Morgan State University. Staying true to his passion for music, Jaye along with his partner Christian Williams founded an independent record label and production company called Jamm City Records in 1982. A firm believer in giving back to the community, Jaye was employed by several public service organizations. He worked for the Maryland Training School for Boys, the Greater Baltimore Urban League, and the Mayor's Office of Employment Development. He continued to work in the public sector until his retirement in December 2007. Jaye will be remembered as being a confident, optimistic man who offered positive inspiration to all that knew him. He had a wonderful way of encouraging and motivating others. Often calling them "Great One," and constantly encouraging them to pursue their dreams. Over the years he mentored a host of athletes, broadcasters, artists, musicians and "adopted" sons & daughters. He leaves to cherish his memory a�" his mother, Eleanor W. Gibson of Easton, MD; his children, Russell Lynell Allen (Towson, MD), ChrisTina M. Allen (Baltimore, MD), Jabef Duprey, Raikija S. Allen, Fahbej Q. Allen, and Miota Allen (all of Gaston, North Carolina); his siblings, Shirley D. Woolford (Chicago, IL), Ann Jackson (John) (Des Moines, IA) Doris E. Woolford (Easton, MD), Harry Woolford (Denton, MD), Francis H. Allen (Easton, MD) and Rev. Donnie D. Allen (Miami, FL) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Mills Allen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, 1pm at Union Baptist Church 223 Glenwood Ave Easton, MD with a viewing two hours prior to the services.
