Goldy Turner Obituary (1942

Goldy Emma Lorraine Bailey Turner, 67, died peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, November 27, 2009 at her home in Royal Oak, Maryland. She was born July 31, 1942, daughter of Emily Roberts Bailey and John Wesley Bailey. She was an only child. Goldy was raised by her mother and grandparents Gustina and William Roberts. Her father was killed in 1945 during World War II. Her childhood was spent on Martin Point Farm in Trappe. Her mother was a licensed practical nurse in New York City and Baltimore where Goldy would visit her every summer. She attended Trappe Elementary School and Moton Junior/Senior High School, graduating in 1960. She then enrolled at Morgan State University, graduating with a degree in Business Administrating in 1965. Goldy married her college sweetheart Hilbert (Bill) Turner on September 4, 1965 in Elkton, Maryland. Goldy and Bill started their married life in Baltimore, Maryland but moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 1966 due to his job. The following year, they returned to Baltimore, where their son Hilbert Jr. was born in 1968. Over the next 31 years, the family lived in Harrisburg, PA, Bowie, MD and Riva, MD. When Goldy and Bill retired, they returned to Talbot County and settled in Royal Oak, Md in 1999. She spent her working career as an elementary school teacher. Throughout her career, she taught kindergarten, first grade and second grade. She began in the Baltimore City Public School System and later joined the Anne Arundel County Public Schools System teaching at Oak Hill, Maryland City and Crofton Woods Elementary Schools. She retired after 30 years of teaching. She enjoyed many hobbies including ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, scrapbooking, quilting, macramAC.', photography cruising/traveling and baking. She was well known a round the Bellevue Community for making delicious sweet potato pies and crab cakes. Goldy did volunteer work for her church St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the Moton Alumni Association and for several years operated a food concession stand at the annual Nace's Day Parade in Trappe. Goldy was also a member of the O.C. Gang, an Eastern Shore group of friends who traveled and gathered several times a year. Goldy is survived by her husband Hilbert (Bill) Turner; her son, Hilbert Turner Jr.; daughter in-law, Tasha Turner; brothers in-law, Gerald Turner and Maurice Turner; sisters in-law, Ernestine Turner, Nancy Turner, Katecia Turner and Nanny May Turner; uncles, Dr. Hilliard Gardner and Raymond Gardner; aunt, Lucinda Powell; cousins, Eunice Bailey, Minnie (Honey) Johnson, Linda Saunders, Donald (Lonnie) Baker, Katrina Cromwell, Bradford Brummell, Vincent Brummell, Joyce Ann Jenkins, Joan Bailey, Pauline Bailey, Emily Brown, Robert Brummell and Joseph Brummell and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and devoted friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 12 noon at St. Marks UM Church 100 Peachblossom Road Easton, Md with a viewing two hours prior to services only.
