Gloria Louise Baines

–

Saint Michaels, Maryland

Gloria Louise Baines, 84 years of age, transitioned on February 24, 2025 at Talbot Hospice, in Easton Maryland.

Born on December 6, 1940, to the late Harold C. Johnson and Pearl M. Johnson. Gloria attended primary school and graduated from Moton High School in Easton, Maryland. She worked a variety of jobs in the restaurant business and later became a chef. Gloria also worked in a salon as a beauty shop assistant helping the stylists with daily tasks including washing hair to scheduling appointments and clients with services.

Gloria was a member of the Household of Ruth, a Lodge once located on Freemont Street in St. Michaels. She was a Scout Leader for the Girls Scout where she organized troop schedules, planned and facilitated regular troop meetings to help Girl Scouts discover new skills, participate in activities and make lifelong friends. Gloria was a faithful member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Royal Oak, Maryland (Bellevue) and at one time held a position as an Usher.

In her spare time, Gloria loved watching baseball games on TV, working crossword puzzles and cooking. Her mac and cheese was a family favorite. However, her signature crabcakes were a staple. For many years, during the baseball season, when Harold’s team, “The Chicago White Sox” played against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, Gloria would make her signature crabcakes for the entire Chicago White Sox Baseball team.

In addition to her parents, Gloria is preceded in death by two sons, Linwood Baines III and Irving Baines, and two sisters, Phyllis Brummel and Juanita Johnson.

Gloria leaves to cherish fond memories to her children, Harold (Marla) Baines of St. Michaels, Bertha Nixon of Cambridge, MD, Curtis Baines of West Virginia, a sister: Evon Barnett of St. Michaels, a long companion, Bruce Bailey, four nieces, Marnita Copper, Joslyn Reed, Carla Germany, and Lavonne Barnett. Ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, friends and two special friends, Ann Wayman and Vera Thomas.
