George Thompson

–

Cambridge, Maryland

HIS JOURNEY

George Thompson was born on August 13, 1946 to the late Fred Thompson and Essie Stiles Thompson in Cambridge, Maryland. George went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2023.

George received his early education in the Cambridge public school system, and he was a member of the "Class of 1965." He later received his certification in welding.

George married Barbara Cornish Thompson on January 25, 1975.

George was employed at RJR Foods/Nabisco for 27 years until it closed. He later worked for Interstate Corr Pack in Cambridge, MD and Camtec in Church Creek, Md. By trade he was a welder, but he was truly a "jack -of-all" trades.

George in his early years was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Salem, Maryland under the leadership of the late Rev. Nelson Stanley. He was an original member of The Gospel Echoes of Cordtown A.M.E Church in Cordtown, Maryland. He loved the Lord and would always praise and glorify His name. In the group you could often hear him leading some of his favorite songs such as, "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone", "God Is Standing By", and "I Trust in God ''. He truly believed in what he was singing.

George was an avid hunter in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family and friends looking at boxing matches.

George was a very kind person, who loved his family and friends. He would do anything to help anyone. Even as his health continued to decline, he had his mind on the Lord.

George leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories, his wife of 48 years Barbara Thompson, two sons, Mervin Dennis from Bowie, MD and Treven Dennis, Sr., two sisters, Gloria Henry and Cora Thompson of Cambridge, MD, two brothers, Robert Thompson and Samuel Thompson (Glenda) of Cambridge, MD., sisters-in-law, Brenda Fields Cambridge, MD., Karen Adebiyi (Elim) and Sharon Scott (Amir) both from Washington, DC, brothers-in-law Alfonso Cornish (Yvonne) from Louisville, Kentucky, David Henry from Woodstock, MD and Hansel Greene from Cambridge, MD; four grandchildren: Romar Blacknall, Treven Dennis, Jr., Alysse Dennis and Tevin Dennis. He has six great-grandchildren. Chrystal Camper and Angel Greene were very special to him, and there are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thompson, Sr., George was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Thompson, Jr. and Norman Thompson, five sisters, Shirley Thompson, Evangeline Brummell, Rose Bailey, Marilyn Greene, Arizona Kennard, and Lillian Jolley, two sisters-in-law, Sandra Thompson and Lorraine Thompson, and three brothers-in-law James Jolley, John Bailey and James Brummell.
