Cambridge, Maryland
Gary Jorge Gillespie son of Gwendolyn Gillespie-Camper and stepson of Carroll M. Camper was born September 22, 1972 and transitioned on October 24, 2025 from a heart attack.
Gary, born in Cambridge, Maryland, brought light, laughter and love to those around him and continued to do so after death. He was an organ and tissue donor, matching six or seven lives the day he passed. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor and creativity. Gary was educated in Dorchester County Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1990. While attending Cambridge South Dorchester High he was a member of the marching band, the concert band, as well as the jazz band. Gary was on the wrestling team, and after graduating he attended the University of Maryland in College Park.
Still Gary worked hard to find his niche in life. Searching for his calling he enlisted in the United States Army and was later stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky located between Tennessee and the Kentucky border. Gary was a press operator at Martinrea International, as an auto manufacturer. He held this job approximately for fifteen years.
He was a dedicated worker. He wrote this on social media just a week ago; "I really know my time here is coming to the end; 95 south will be my old home. It's been hard for me to leave here because you guys made me an integral part of your lives."
Gary loved to cook and display his dishes on social media. He loved his dog Moses, his tabby, Tigger, who passed away, and his little kitten Smokey. I am told Moses has been quietly crying in the garage since his passing.
Gary is preceded in death by his biological father Charles D Gillespie; his stepfather, Carroll M. Camper; his paternal grandparents, Luther and Dorothy Gillespie; his maternal grandparents, Palestine Cornish, Katherine Cornish and Mary Francis Bryan Jackson; several aunts, uncles, cousins and his childhood friend, Larry Bennett.
Gary leaves to cherish his memories: his mama, Gwen; his step brother, Jermaine C. Camper; his other mama/aunt Rosalyn B. Wallace; his cousins/brother, Nathaniel D. Bryan and Nicole M. Bryan; his godparents, Charles Thompson and Gwendolyn E. Lyte-Davis; his aunts, Esther Thomas, Gloria Camper-Jones, Camilla Cooper (Robert), Cardeaner Robinson, Virginia Camper and one uncle Eugene Camper, Sr. (Betty).
Back in Tennessee many mourn the loss of Gary. His presence was a gift; his absence leaves a profound silence.
