Centreville, Maryland
Donald (Moon) Oswald Wilkerson, Jr., 74, of Centreville, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Talbot Hospice House, Easton.
He was born in Centreville, MD at his grandparents’ home, on July 31, 1951, to Mildred Jean Brown (Cooper) and the late Donald O. Wilkerson. He was educated in the public schools of Queen Anne’s County. Donald worked for Pargas (Suburban Propane), in Centreville for many years. Later he worked as a railroad welder for Conrail.
As a young child, Donald attended Bethel AME Church with his mother. Later in his adult life, he attended Bethel AME Church in Chestertown.
Donald’s hobbies were watching his two favorite sports teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Lakers. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Jared and Shiasia, and making them laugh. Moon loved cars and always had a nice car, not expensive, but they were always sporty and clean.
Moon was a good driver and loved to street race in his dodge Coronet. Moon was well known for his basketball talent during his high school days and well after when he participated in the men’s leagues from Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, & Wicomico Counties in Maryland and also in Delaware. One coach from another team commented on the fact that he had never seen such talent from a player and that Moon was the only player to block his best players' shots. After the game, the coach even shook hands with Moon, something that no other coach had ever done. He was considered unstoppable because of his ability and height. The Varsity basketball team nicknamed him “Moon” because of his high arching shot that looked like it was going to the moon and because he was so tall compared to the other teenagers at the time. Moon was a gentle Giant and didn’t anger easily or often. Moon was witty, comical, intelligent and a very good friend to many!
He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Oswald, Sr., brother, Benjamin Jerome Brown, grandparents, Arnold and Mildred Brown, Chandler and Natalie Wilkerson, several aunts and uncles.
In addition to his mother, Donald (Moon), leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Moonique Olivia Wilkerson, one grandson, Jared X. Wilkerson, one granddaughter, Shiasia J. Allmond, 9 brothers, Sylvester Wheeler (Liz), Arnold Bennett, James Bennett, Julius Bennett, Kevin Wilkerson, Derrell Wilkerson (Faye), Keith Wilkerson, Gregory Wilkerson (Beverly) and Frank Middlebrooks (Brenda), 11 sisters, Anita Bennett Lomax, Laverne Webb, Regina (Missy) Bennett, Darlene Wilkerson Brown, Valarie Wilkerson Phillips (Ronnie), Karen Wilkerson, Malinda Wilkerson, Donna Wilkerson, Chris Alicia, Shanna Rankin (Michael) and Mary Heath, one aunt, Brenda Butler, and one uncle George (Ricky) Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
