Diana Christina Pierce Jones, affectionately known as “Di”, was born April 2, 1949 in Chester, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Percy Pierce, Sr. and the late Lina Pauls Pierce. She departed her earthly life on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at her home in Chester, Maryland.
Diana was educated in the Queen Anne’s County Public School System. She attended South County Elementary School in Grasonville, Maryland. She began her secondary education at Kennard High School in Centreville, Maryland. However, she graduated from Queen Anne’s County High School as part of the first integrated Class of 1967.
That year, Diana furthered her education by attending a business school in Washington D.C. to become a Key Punch Operator. Diana worked for the D.C. government for 30 years. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant and later retired from the Division Department of Environment (DDOE) under the division of Air Quality. Diana also worked various part-time jobs including a senior citizen facility.
Diana married Curtis Jones, Sr. on August 5, 1972. She was a devoted stepmother to Curtis Jones, Jr., whom she affectionately called “Little Curtis”. Diana was brought up in a loving Christian home. She was dedicated to the Lord at a young age and gave her life to Christ as a young adult. As a member of the Union Wesley Methodist Church, known now as the New United Methodist Church, she became involved in the United Methodist Women’s group and other church activities. She enjoyed giving, and often supported or participated in different church functions and events.
Diana loved helping others. She was a known “shopaholic” and especially loved yard sales. She would often treasure things that others devalued. She had a generous heart and was always thinking of others as she picked up random items while shopping with family and friends in mind to show her love. She enjoyed listening to old style gospel music, but would also get excited and start dancing, snapping her fingers, and reminiscing whenever she heard Barry White and Marvin Gaye. Diana was known for being an animated storyteller often leaving those listening in tears from laughter. She had a great sense of humor and was a lot of fun, but also could be “feisty” at times and very direct in conversation.
Diana was preceded in death by her loving parents Percy and Lina Pierce and her devoted brothers Percy Jr., Johnny, Robert, and Charles Pierce. She was preceded in death by her late husband Curtis Jones, Sr. and her stepson, Curtis Jones, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her godson, James Cain, Jr. Diana leaves to cherish her loving memory: 2 sisters Jane Boyd of Manson, North Carolina and Betty Knowlin of Chester, Maryland; 1 brother Thomas Pierce of Chester, Maryland; 1 brother-in-law David Boyd of Manson, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and dear friends and acquaintances.
