A Soldier’s Story: The Life of Charles Edward Jackson Sr.

On February 10, 2026, the final watch was called for Charles Edward Jackson Sr., 83, of Cambridge. But a soldier’s story does not end with the closing of his eyes. It lives on in the footsteps he marched, the family he built, and the legacy he leaves behind.

Born on August 22, 1942, in Cambridge, Maryland, to Rebecca and Robert Jackson Sr., Charles was raised with values that would guide him all his life: faith, discipline, hard work, and love of family. Those early lessons became the foundation of a man who would answer every call placed before him.

In 1961, after graduating from Mace's Lane High School, Charles answered a higher call, the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Army, stepping into a life that demanded courage and commitment. His service carried him to Fort Devens and overseas to South Korea, where he fulfilled his duties with honor and steadfast resolve.

As a Military Police officer, Charles stood as a guardian of order and discipline, eventually earning the respected rank of Sergeant First Class. Leadership was not just a title he wore; it was a responsibility he carried with pride. Whether on base or abroad, he embodied the strength and reliability that defined a true soldier.

When his military service concluded, Charles brought that same determination home. He worked faithfully for Conley Container for many years, providing for his family with diligence and pride. Yet his ambition did not rest there. After earning his contractor’s license, he built something of his own, C&D Builders. Laying foundations not just for houses, but for dreams. Later, as the sole proprietor of Jackson’s Cash Market, he continued to serve his community until declining health required him to step back.

But beyond the uniforms and the businesses stood the heart of the man, his family.
Charles was a devoted father to Rosalind Jackson, Charles Edward Jackson Jr. (Jermel), Conae Jackson, and a son he raised as his own, Ronald Sampson (Saxxon). He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren, Tamekia Jackson, Roe’Quon Newton, Ry’Keem Newton, Ronae Jackson, Todd Jackson Jr., Jarrin Jackson, Charnae Jackson, Charles Edward Jackson III, Chloe Jackson, Italia Sampson, Nevaeh Carter, and Reign Sampson. Great-grandfather to 8, and great-great-grandfather to 2. With each generation a living testament to his strength and guidance. He shared a lasting bond with his brother, Robert Jackson Jr. (Daphine), and treasured his friendship with Sylvia “Mutt” Stanley. He also leaves behind a host of relatives, and friends who carry his memory forward.

He now reunites with those who went before him, his parents, Robert and Rebecca Jackson; his sister, Joan Perry; his beloved son, Todd Jackson Sr., his son-in-law, Alexander (Gerald) Day; and other dear family members who welcomed him home.

In his quieter moments, Charles enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, fishing, gardening, playing cards, sharing meals out, and cheering on his favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens. Even in leisure, his loyalty never wavered.

A soldier stands watch. A builder lays foundations. A father shapes generations.
Charles Edward Jackson Sr. did all three.

Though his earthly post has ended, his legacy of service, strength, and love remains. His was a life lived with honor. A soldier’s story written not only in duty, but in devotion.
