Bernice Pinkett, born Bernice Johnson, on December 26, 1938, in Cambridge, Maryland, was an exquisite blend of strength, grace, and compassion. As Maya Angelou so aptly said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Bernice made everyone she encountered feel loved and valued. Her legacy is one of unstinting love, particularly towards her son, Wendell Johnson, whom she cherished with all her heart.\n\nBernice's professional journey in the sewing industry was as impressive as her personal one. She spent a significant portion of her life at Rob Roy, a renowned sewing factory. Her dedication, hard work, and integrity led her to retire from the esteemed Chesapeake Developmental Unit, Inc. as a Vocational Supervisor. Bernice was more than just an employee; she was a mentor, and a guiding light who inspired her colleagues with her tenacity and compassion.\n\nBernice was a beacon of light in her community, always ready with a comforting word or a warm hug. She is survived by her son, Wendell Tyrone Johnson; two special nieces, Nettie Kane Jackson and Patricia Camper; and a nephew, Dontay Johnson whom she raised as a son. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Pinkett; her parents Winfield Johnson and Anna Mae Johnson; siblings, Norma Lee Young, Edward Johnson, Eugene Johnson, Emerson Johnson, Lester Parker, Leon Johnson, Avonderine Stanley, and Margaret Stafford. Each of them held a special place in her heart and contributed to the remarkable woman she became.\n\nAs we remember Bernice, let's celebrate her life, her love, and her legacy. In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Bernice will forever remain a part of us, in our hearts and memories.
