Arthur Rogers "Sonny" Jones

–

Cambridge, Maryland

Arthur Rogers “Sonny” Jones, 80, was born on May 10, 1945, in Cambridge, Maryland. He peacefully departed this life on March 1, 2026, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family. Sonny was the son of the late Arthur W. Jones and the late Dorothy M. Jones, and he was raised in the close-knit community of Taylor’s Island, Maryland.

Sonny attended Taylor’s Island Elementary School, Grades 1-7 and graduated from Maces Lane High School in 1963.

At an early age, Sonny attended Lane United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir alongside Mickey, Gary, Curtis, Jerome and others.

Known for his strong work ethic and commitment, Sonny remained employed full-time until his passing. He dedicated an extraordinary 62 years of faithful service working in the same building at 902 Woods Road in Cambridge, Maryland. Throughout those decades, the facility changed ownership several times, yet Sonny remained a constant presence. Today, the location is known as The Mushroom Company, where Sonny spent the last 23 years of his remarkable career serving as a Machine Operator and Mechanic. He took great pride in his work and truly loved the people he worked alongside each day. His coworkers became like family to him, and the feeling was mutual. They deeply respected and cared for Sonny, forming bonds that extended far beyond the workplace. His remarkable longevity at one place of employment reflected a lifetime of dedication, loyalty, and an extraordinary work ethic that defined the man he was.

Sonny enjoyed music, spending time at the racetrack, cutting grass, playing pool and working on cars. He also had a deep love for his family, whom he cherished with all his heart.

Sonny leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Delilah Jones; his daughters: Leslie Jenell Walker (Seymour-Moe) of Glen Burnie, Maryland; Terri Moore (James) of Baltimore, Maryland; Dormaim Green (Elbert “Boo”) of Cambridge, Maryland; and Yolanda Jenkins (Terez) of Baltimore, Maryland.

Sonny also leaves two very special grandsons whom he helped raise as sons: De’Adrein Jones, Sr. (Sheila) of Cambridge, Maryland, and De’Adrein Jones, Jr. of Cambridge, Maryland.

Sonny’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Stanley Lamar Blackwell and Christopher Blackwell, both of Baltimore, Maryland; Destin Green of Cambridge, Maryland; and Shakia Gamble (Jason) of Glen Burnie, Maryland. His great-grandchildren include Quincy Jones of Cambridge, Maryland; Jaion Smith and Jaleah Gamble both of Glen Burnie, Maryland.

He is also survived by his siblings: Judy Rhock, Normalee Thompson, and Linda Elliott, all of Cambridge, Maryland; Wayne Jones (Agurtha) of Cambridge, Maryland. Sonny also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters-in-law: Barbara Stafford and Portia Harris, both of Baltimore, Maryland; and Renee Copper (Richard) of Cambridge, Maryland; and his brothers-in-law: Charles Cornish (Dora) of Glen Burnie, Maryland and Tyrone Wilson (Darlene) of Baltimore, Maryland.

He is further survived by his beloved Aunt Goldie Stanley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as his bonus great grandchildren: Shayla, Jada, Mya (Mason & Priscilla) and bonus grandchildren: Tanea, Adam, and Candace.

Sonny leaves behind many cherished friendships, including Michael Wheatley, Melvin Banks, Carl Opher, Robert Cooper, and Mr. and Mrs. Hilary Rhock, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many pool hall and racetrack buddies who will forever remember his presence, laughter, and loyalty.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sisters Patricia McNamara and Lorraine Jones-Palmer; his aunts Pauline Andrews, Helen B. Stanley, Marian Sloane, and Antionette Green; and his uncle Travers Stanley.

Sonny’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication, loyalty, and love for family. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
