Cambridge, Maryland
After a valiant battle with heart disease, Aloma “Al” V. Elliott, returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the age of 69. Al was born on February 11, 1947 to the late Benjamin Woolford and Lillian Cornish. She was raised by her grandmother Evelyn Foster.
She graduated from Mace’s Lane High School, Cambridge in 1965. While attending school, she met and eventually married the late Arthur O. Elliott and began her career working for the Rob Roy Factory in Cambridge. After leaving the Rob Roy’s Factory, she went into restaurant management working for various franchises, in Cambridge, Salisbury, Vineland, NJ and Wilmington, DE. Ultimately returning to Salisbury where she sought employment at Genesis Nursing Home as Certified Nursing Assistant until being diagnosed with congestive heart failure in January 2007.
Al dedicated her life working and serving others. She continued to serve her community by working at Holly Community Inc., as an Administrative Assistant for the Parole and Probation Office of Dorchester County and as a Peer Coach teaching senior citizens computer basics. As well as volunteering at the Dorchester Women’s Auxiliary, Auxiliary of the Dorchester General Hospital, Inc., and various organizations.
Those who knew Al best, knew her soul was pure and she would do anything for you without question. But she didn’t take no “wooden nickels!” She enjoyed spending time with family, playing bingo, pokeno and attending monthly ice cream socials with friends. She also loved fashion and had a keen eye for what was “on the go”. In her downtime, she enjoyed shopping and sewing.
She was proceeded in death by three brothers and one sister: Ronald Cornish, Jerome Cornish, Virginia Brisco and Eric Cornish.
Aloma leaves to cherish fond memories her only child Latonya S. Franklin of Mardela Springs; three grandchildren: Christopher H. Stevenson Jr. of Salisbury, Randy L. Franklin of Silver Springs, and Lakesha S. Cakpo (Wilfred) of York, PA; one great-granddaughter, Zori D. Smack of York, PA; 12 loving nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
She also leaves several devoted friends: Clarissa Townsend, Emmer Taylor, Kathy Chan, Patricia Elliott and Patricia Stanley.
